Glen McKay
Glen McKay celebrated his 100th birthday on Thursday, December 5, 2002. He was given the name of Glenwood at birth but has always been known as Glen. He is the 8th child and the 4th of 5 sons of Lemuel Abraham and Tiffin Ohio Essig McKay. He was born in Princeton, Missouri on December 5, 1902. When he was 3 years old he moved with his family by train to Indian Territory and they settled in an area that is now known as Winganon, Oklahoma in Rogers County. Later, they relocated in the area around Alluwe, Oklahoma in Nowata County.
His first term of school was in the ‘Rock Store’ located 3 miles East of Alluwe, Oklahoma and then later he attended the Bugsscuffle and Alluwe Schools.
Glen has lived all of his life in the Alluwe area.
He married Oda Rae ‘Toad’ Eagleson on June 16, 1930. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this year. They have 3 daughters, Barbara, Glenna and Jane.
Glen was employed by the Wiser and Forest Oil Companies and was retired from the Forest Oil Company in 1968 after 30 plus years of service.
Along with his oil field occupation and with the help of his wife he has always owned and raised white faced Hereford cattle. Just in recent years the herd had to be somewhat reduced. A favorite and much loved animal on his farm was his horse Cheyenne of 30 years. His beloved horse is no longer but Glen until very recent years still wore his cowboy boots and white Stetson hat. Also, because of his love for quail hunting he has owned over the years several bird dogs. The ones that the fondest memories are Frank, Beezer and Trash.
His wife, daughters, sons-in-law John (Bunky) Krouse and Ray Maddux; 5 Grandchildren, Bradley, Johnny, Richard, Doug and Jimmy; 7 Great Grandchildren, Susan, Bailey, Kayse, Josh, Colby, Lauren and Drew; Granddaughters-in-law, Beverly, Kelly and Rayne; nieces and nephews and many friends all join together in wishing him a very ‘Happy Birthday’ and Congratulations on reaching this big milestone in his life. |
