James Dyghton McClary

Spun Silver

I would like to tell you a story about James Dyghton McClary, the brother of my grandmother, Anna Mae McClary. It all started March 25, 2007, Rebecca Swearingen emailed me to introduce herself.  She explained that James Dyghton McClary was her grandfather. Right off I was excited because James was the brother to my grandmother. I emailed Rebecca right back and told her, I was thinking of doing an Essig-McClary family website. I had old family photo’s and pedigree charts, so I had everything it took to build a website. Rebecca liked the idea and offered to restore all my old family photo’s. Most of these photo’s are in B&W and were taped into an old photo album at one time, so they looked terrible. Other’s were blurry and spotted. Rebecca did amazing work restoring these photo’s, what a gift she has given to the family. Thank you Rebecca!

While building the website, I would email Rebecca the old photo’s. April 20, 2007,  I had the urge to tell Rebecca about an old bracelet I had. This bracelet was given to me by my grandmother, Anna Mae, at the time she told me one of her brother’s gave it to her, but after all these years,  I couldn’t remember which brother she said it was. I emailed Rebecca a photo of the bracelet and told her the story. Rebecca emailed me right back and said, it was her grandfather James Dyghton McClary that gave his sister Anna Mae the bracelet. Rebecca knew because she has the matching brooch that her grandmother, Amber Golden McClary owned, given to her by her husband James Dyghton McClary. We were both thrilled.

You have no idea what it feels like to have a feeling about something and then it develops into a story from the past! Below are photo’s of the bracelet & the brooch. Looks to be Spun Silver.
